S.E.A OF EMOTIONS

With ambiguous loss our grief can be as vast as the ocean. In some moments, emotions can knock us over like waves. At other times the seas will be calm. We can't stop the waves but can learn to navigate and manage them. We often fear strong emotions and avoid them, however feeling them and allowing them to flow usually lessens the intensity.

The S.E.A of Emotions was devised by Chloe Swinton in 2022 as a helpful guide to support you in processing your emotional experience. Emotions move through us like waves, if we allow them. If we don't, we can become stuck in seaweed and get pulled in all directions.

Seek professional support from a Therapist if you feel overwhelmed by what arises for you or if you find yourself under the wave most of the time without coming up for air.

Ask yourself the following exploratory questions as you imagine a wave brewing then crashing to the shore...

  1. Spot - feel it brewing
What emotion is arising in me? Where can I feel it in my body? Can I recognise and name it? Acknowledge it.

  2. Explore - ride with it
Where is the emotion coming from? What is the root of it? What belief might I hold? What do I need right now? Be curious.

  3. Allow - let it crash
Can I experience it for a moment before letting it go? How does it change and move through me? Then release.
